Short version: we count a few anonymous events and use Google Analytics (advertising features off), and we don’t know who you are.

What we collect
Anonymous event counts. When you do certain things on the site, your browser sends a small message to our own endpoint. Each record holds only three things:
- the event name,
- the page path (without any query string),
- one coarse dimension, such as which verdict row you opened.
Our own counter doesn’t store your IP address, browser or device details (user agent), cookies or any identifier, and we never record what you type. If a dimension ever looks like an email, phone number or address, it is dropped before storage. The same events also go to Google Analytics (below).
| Event | Counted when |
|---|---|
verdict_expand | a verdict row (Calls, VPN, Uploads, Gaming) was opened; dimension: which row |
failover_start | the Failover Builder was started |
failover_complete | the Failover Builder produced a plan |
failover_share | a Failover Builder share link was copied |
failover_print | a Failover Builder plan was printed |
csv_download | a report CSV was downloaded; dimension: the file name |
itbox_expand | a “for your IT person” box was opened; dimension: its topic |
outbound_starlink | a link to starlink.com was clicked; dimension: which link spot |
sister_click | a link to a sister site was clicked; dimension: which site |
affiliate_click | an affiliate link was clicked (only if affiliate links are ever switched on) |
search_query | a site search returned results; dimension: a result status, never your words |
search_zero | a site search found nothing; dimension: a result status, never your words |
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages help. It loads Google’s gtag.js script from googletagmanager.com and sets first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_…, kept up to 2 years) so a returning browser can be recognized. Google receives the page address, the referring page, device and browser details, and an approximate location derived from your IP address (Google says Google Analytics 4 doesn’t log or store IP addresses). The events in the table above are sent with a “detail” value holding the same coarse dimension, never anything you type.
- Google signals and ad personalization are turned off: no advertising features, no remarketing. We don’t sell the data.
- Event data is kept for 14 months.
- If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, Google Analytics isn’t loaded at all.
- To opt out, turn on Global Privacy Control, block cookies for this site, or install Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
See how Google uses data from sites that use its services and Google’s privacy policy.
What stays in your browser
- Failover Builder: runs entirely in your browser and stores nothing on our side. A share link holds only the option keys you picked (such as a work type or budget band), nothing personal. It never asks for your address, name or email.
- Site search: runs in your browser against a file of page titles. Your search words aren’t sent to us.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes requests, including IP addresses, to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, under its own privacy policy. We don’t receive or keep those request logs for analytics.
What we don’t do
- No advertising or social-media trackers. Google Analytics runs with its advertising features off.
- No selling or sharing of personal information.
- No accounts, newsletters or forms that collect personal details.
- Nothing you do here is sent to Starlink or SpaceX. Links to starlink.com are plain links; what happens there is covered by Starlink’s policies.
If this changes
If display ads or affiliate links are ever added, this page is updated first, with the date, and any choices required by law (such as a “Your Privacy Choices” link that honors Global Privacy Control) are added before they go live. See how we make money.
Other notes
- Do Not Track: we don’t respond to it on its own; use Global Privacy Control, which stops Google Analytics from loading, or the opt-out options above.
- Children: the site isn’t directed to children under 13 and doesn’t knowingly collect their information.
- Where: the site is written for readers in the United States.
